LESSON ONE

WHY  YOU ARE WONDERFUL

Dear friend,
In the beginning was the world and the world was with God And the world was God. The same was in the beginning. All things were made by Him and without Him was not any thing that was made. John 1:1-3.

Then God said: Let us (GOD THE FATHER, SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT) make a man, some one like ourselves to be the master of all life upon the earth and in the skies and in the seas. So God made man (MALE AND FEMALE) in His own image to look like Him. He blessed us and told us: Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, you are masters of the fish and birds and all the animals. And He said look! I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. When God saw all that He had made it was very good. This is why you are wonderful.

Have you ever stopped to think how truly wonderful you are? Because you are amazingly wonderful human being. You cannot claim any credit for that. You did not make yourself, nor keep yourself in running order,
or do any repair work to yourself. The creative Intelligence is responsible for All that. Think for a few moments of this wonder of being. First of all, you are alive! What a wonder and glory that is. You awake every morning to a wondrous, alive world of light, and mysterious beauty, a fresh made-over being, from the ‘end of the day’ person you were the night before.

You lay asleep, like a clod in your bed, quite unconscious of anything that was going on around you, and suddenly you are awake! Awake, alive and alert, with five wonderful senses. You can see the sky and the moving clouds, the luscious green of trees and grass, and the muti-coloured flowers.
You can hear, perhaps, the song of the birds, the wind in the trees, the pitter-patter of the rain, the majestic roll of a thunderstorm or the rumble of trains or motor cars, or an aero plane.

You reach out your hand and touch a book, you lift it with your fingers and begin to read. Marvels upon marvels! As you look at the printed page you see words and sentences that convey meaning to you. Someone else has some ideas which they have written down by the means of their amazing fingers holding pencil or pen. You are conscious of all these things because built into this wonderful being that you are, is a marvelous receiving set that records all these different vibrations, and what is even more marvelous, conveys the meaning of them to you.

You jump out of bed, using an intricate mechanism of spring, hinges and joints, etc., and find that you are now feeling with your feet, as they touch the floor. You are standing bolt upright; and without having the slightest idea how it all works, you move from place to place, whenever you want to go. You do not have to tell your feet where you want to go, or that you want them to take you there. They automatically move in response to your desire. Automation! That’s what it is. Science is only just beginning to think about it, but you have had automation ever since you were a child. You are truly wonderful!

But that’s not all, there’s a lot more to you than that. You are alive, awake, alert, and can move about and touch things, and you don’t know how or why. Within your body there is an enormous amount of activity going on. More automation.
You have a wonderful pair of bellows that keeps on pumping the air in and out, doing the job without any trouble to you, taking their share in keeping you alive. Your body also contains its own ‘do it-yourself’ renewal and repair outfit, and its own chemical laboratory.

Again, you don’t have to know how it’s done. All you have to do is to feed this computer of yours with all kinds of delicious foods and drinks through the hole on your face, which you enjoy doing because it tastes good. After passing through a built-in mincing machine, this is automatically conveyed to your chemical laboratory which in a very short time converts it into a bit of muscle here, skin there, blood somewhere else, ear-wax, hormones, bones, hair, nerves, various kinds of liquid, digestive juices, lubricating oils, and many other whatnots.
Chemists don’t know how to do half the things that are done in your personal laboratory and you don’t need any huge buildings or chemicals works. Your wonderful body has them all built. Chemists cannot even grow a finger or toe-nail, and you grow ten of each of them and every few months they are replaced with new ones.

That’s another wonderful thing about you. You don’t even have to think about such a thing as depreciation of stock. Your machine automatically renews itself. Scientists will have to go a long, long way before they catch up with that.
None of your workers or working parts is ever redundant, at least, not to your inconvenience. You are not even aware that new parts are being installed, they just are, and no one part goes on strike because another section is not being paid for not working. There are strikes and lock-out in some of your workshops at times, but that’s another story, generally because you have interfered and thrown a spanner in the works.

All that is only the beginning, wonderful as it all is. What about the wonderful receiving set I mentioned, that enables you to be conscious of your five wonderful physical senses? This is what is called your mind. This is where it becomes almost too wonderful to put into words. And yet, what are words? Merely a method of conveying the ideas in your mind to someone else. ‘Merely’ following that train of thought and see where it leads you. What are ideas? This is where you are reliable to become unstuck unless you keep to your theme song: “Thanks be to God, or whatever you call the creative intelligence, for this wonderful me”.

You didn’t make yourself. You do not keep yourself in running order or pair, but having realized that you have a wonderful thinking apparatus, may be you have an idea that you will yourself as managing director, retaining the majority of the shares.  This thinking apparatus that you have, allows you to do that because it’s a wonderful free agent. You can choose to think anything that you chose to think, and the amazing thing is that you actually become what you chose to THINK. That is something that quite possibly you have not yet discovered about yourself. You can choose what you will think.

You can choose to think of yourself as the managing director of your own limited liability company, and think you can run yourself and claim all the credit. If you do, you will very soon find out all the limitations and liabilities. You find you are limited by your own ideas of what has happened in the past, and by what is going on all around you. You read what is in the newspaper, see what is on the television and hear what your friends and relatives have to say and because you are ‘only human after all’ you are limited by all this old ideas.

Then of course, you have liabilities. You have liable to ‘catch a cold’ if you sit in a draught or get your feet wet. You are liable to get influenza if you catch a germ from someone who’s got it. You are liable to get indigestion if you eat pork, and if you eat peas or beans or greens you are liable to have flatulence or you are liable to have hay fever when the pollen is about, or asthma if you sleep on a feather pillow. There is no end to the discomforts you are liable to contract when you form yourself into a limited liability company. This is where the strikes and lock-outs come into picture. You’ve locked out the Chief Engineer, and one after another the different workshops go on strike. You begin by feeling tired, feeling overwhelmed, that you just can’t go any further, you’ve got to down tools, and flop. All tired people are ‘flops’.

Your head aches, your back aches, your legs ache, your heart start thumping; your stomach won’t digest the food you eat. Your chemical laboratory has shut down for the day, so none of the other workshops is getting its normal supply of raw materials. What is getting through isn’t up to standard or has been improperly mixed so the waste pipes are clogged up. What has happened to this wonderful you? You can’t even see so clearly or hear as well as you did. Having limited the company, and taken on too many liabilities, you find you just can’t cope so you call in a specialist who has a special study of faulty workings in the different departments, to try to track down where the breakdown has occurred.

“Ah!” he says, “faulty elimination of waste, by – products not moving fast enough, we’ll use colonic irrigation.” Or, “This department needs simulating; some incentive to get functioning again, your laboratory is running out chemicals, we’ll give it a few of those things called drugs.” Perhaps, it’s the bellows, or the pumping station that is not acting properly, or there’s a bit of redundant machinery that can be cut out, and so it goes on, patching, pruning or pummeling away in one department or another, achieving temporary relief, but without getting any where near the cause of the whole series of strikes, which is that the only one who understands the working of the whole outfit has been locked out. All the disaster has been caused by the sacking of the Chief Engineers.

But please remember that ‘You are Wonderful’. You may have made that sort of stupid mistake in the past, partly because you didn’t altogether realize how very important the Chief Engineer was, and partly because you didn’t understand that you only had to choose something, and yet got it. The wonderful thing is that you don’t have to keep on choosing to make the same mistake, you can choose again. You don’t have to continue to be isolated limited liability company, gradually losing your valuable assets because of inexperience and incompetence. You can choose again, and this time makes sure of getting better results.

You can still be chairman of directors because you still have to make the finally choice, but your choice can be to leave the management to the Chief.
Now what happens? All anxiety is immediately removed. It may make a little while to clear up the mess, and remove the worn out or broken bits of machinery, or get the right chemicals in the right mixtures again, but “Now we know where we are” the shop stewards are saying. The bellows start working properly, and the pumping station is getting its full supply of energy, and the laboratory opens all its subsidiary departments, and perfect laboratory opens all its subsidiary departments, and perfect assimilation and circulation result in perfect elimination of waste.

The Chief is on the job, he soon establishes harmony and right relationships, and every thing in the out – fit is co-operating and working properly. You are no longer an isolated, limited liability company; as you unlimit yourself you lose your liabilities. And that is just what you have to do, unlimit yourself. No one else can do it for you, you make the choice, and the result depends entirely on what you choose. This is the way it goes. When you choose to take over the full control you are all the time thinking of the workshop, and wherever there’s a spot of disorder or dislocation you turn the full force of your thinking apparatus on to the disturbance, and that only makes it worse because, you become whatever you choose to think. So as you think of all the ‘dizzies’, the disturbances, disharmony, discord, disease, or dislocation, you go round and round in circles, becoming more and more ‘dizzy’ until you don’t know where you are or which way to turn.

Now, when you choose to re-establish the Chief Engineer, you say to him, “Go ahead, I won’t put anything in your way. You know exactly what every department’s needs; unlimited resources are at your disposal and you have the know-how.” He’s got to have full control, he won’t take orders from any subordinate not even from the Chairman after he has receive the order to “Go ahead”. He knows how each department works, and how the whole affairs functions, he should, he built it in the first place. But not only that, he’s got his finger on the pulse of all the other similar works, not only yours. Aren’t you wonderful? Working for you, in you as you, is the Great chief, and if you don’t interfere he just works for perfection the whole time.
What does he work with?

What does any Chief Engineer in any mechanical works, work with? He does not work with hammer, chisel, saw or screwdriver; he works with ideas and a blueprint. That’s his department, and no mechanic can do a good job without the ideas and blueprints of the Chief. That’s what your Chief works with, ideas and pattern or blueprints;  and the only way you can interfere is by changing the patterns, and substituting other ideas in place of his perfect ones.

You are still Chairman of Directors and have to give the casting vote. You have to make the ultimate decision.” To be or not to be.” To be perfect, or not to be perfect. There’s no two ways about it, you can’t be both. You are either letting the Chief take charge or you are interfering somewhere. The original blueprint fore you is perfection. Any ideas in your mind of imperfection are those you have substituted during the regime of your ‘limited liability company’. All these have to be removed, lock, stock, and barrel. You are certainly wonderful, and shall be full of amazement at the potential within you. You have a wonderful body with five wonderful senses. A body which works automatically according to the original idea that set it in motion, so long as you allow it to do so.

A wonderful mind, with the power to think whatever you choose to think. A mind which has the power to interfere with the original idea, therefore, it must be some part of that same original idea. But there is something even more wonderful about you, and that’s consciousness itself, you have a wonderful mind and a wonderful body for you to use, but you, your real self is a spirit of you that is consciousness. You are a point of consciousness of the one Great Creative Spirit, with its inherent power to conceive new ideas. It is sometimes called Imagination.
You are truly wonderful! It is well that we should consider ourselves as wonderful, because only so can we give expression to the perfection of the Divinity within. Only so can we release ourselves from the shackles of limitation and enter into the joy of living.

We do not need to make excuses for ourselves, or blame our deficiencies upon other people or circumstances, nor can we boast about ourselves. All our amazing attributes and capabilities are freely given to us. Unless we acknowledge the wonder of them, and the source from which the come, how can we possibly make full use of them? We do not know what our potentialities are, we only know they are indefinitely greater than any thing we have yet experienced, but we shall not move in the direction of expansion, or fuller expression so long as we continue to believe ourselves. Walter Russell said, ‘I believe every man ( and woman) has consummate  within him. Mediocrity is self-inflicted, genius is self-imposed.’ And Emerson said, ‘Do the thing and you will have the power. Do not do the thing and you will not have the power.’ So let us cease from this decrying of God’s creation, and give thanks to the Infinite Creativeness for the wonderful beings created as humanity.

We think so little of these beings that we spend half our time making instruments to wipe them out of existence. This is true, because men toil for taxes for government to spend on arms, and armed forces, while a large portion of humanity starves. Surely there is a better destiny for such wonderful creatures?
Only when we, as individuals, realize this wonder, and recognize ‘the Divinity that shapes our ends, rough hew them how we will’, shall we accept our individual responsibility and opportunity to assist towards the perfecting of the human race.
Let us get things in their right perspective. We have been given wonderful counsel to help us in this respect. ‘be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to the flesh shall reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall reap Life Everlasting.’ (Gal. 6:7,8) Judge not by appearances, but judge righteous judgment.’ The wonder of us does not consist solely in the which does appear as our bodies, wonderful as they are: the amazing wonder is in that which is not seen, but of which we are conscious as our spiritual self.

When we place our faith in the Invisible, Infinite Creativeness, then we are sowing to the spirit, and we begin to understand what it means to live a ‘life more abundant’, the Life Everlasting. When we pin our faith to material resources, or put all our faith on people, then we are sowing to the flesh, and we are sure to reap disharmony, or as Paul called it, ‘corruption’. Thanks be to God, The Chief Engineer, if our reaping is not to our liking, we can change our sowing, plant different seed, and reap a different crop. Let us be enthusiastic about our sowing. Enthusiasm stems from the Greek and it means ‘In God’, and enthusiasm is the only thing that can disperse the apathy, and self-depreciation to which we are all too prone. ‘In God’, Created by spirit, in spirit, of spirit! Should we not all enthuse at such wonder of being? The study of science of mind is for the purpose of acquainting us with our Real Self. But no matter at what level of understanding we may be thinking and speaking, we can all say: “Thanks be to God for wonderful, wonderful Me.”
